The former headquarters of the Copacabana Records and Odeon record labels, the Arinda Building was built in 1958 on Rua Rêgo Freitas, just four years after the foundation of Livraria Duas Cidades, at a neighboring address. At the time, the city center was gaining its most emblematic modernist buildings, experiencing a time of cultural, social and economic effervescence.

With a retrofit project by André Vainer, the identical dimensions and layouts allowed for a more flexible development. The more flexible design of the interior spaces took advantage of all the existing openings and even added new ones, bringing more natural light into the rooms.

A highlight of the retrofit of the Arinda Building was the discovery of the original wooden panel from the period, which was hidden behind a wall that was built sometime after 1958. The piece was restored and greets those who arrive at the building.

The original 1950s parquet flooring found during the renovation was used in the circulation areas of the Arinda Building, where the granite and wood doors and porticos also underwent careful restoration work. The furniture was created exclusively for this project.
